Professional Development 2010-2012
Major Project Description and Rubric Sample
One of the projects I participated in this year was Penguin Palooza. This was a highly collaborative project carried out by all elementary schools in the district. The project married research, life cycles, creative writing, production and compassionate/empathetic learning. This project was submitted to and won the ISTE Classroom Innovation Award for 2012. The rubric below is one we used for this project and one that I use for other ebook publishing projects as well.
Effective Use of Technology in the PD Classroom
As an expert on using iPads in the classroom, I was asked to lead a half day Region 10 session on for Administrators titles iPads in the Classroom. The first thing I did was create a website to allow the administrators to follow along in the class, but also to recreate with their teachers on their campuses. You will notice the step-by-step process as well as the finished product on the webpage. There are resources listed to accompany the project and allow principals to see exactly how the iPad could be used within a lesson plan seamlessly and effectively. The purpose of this was to take those leaders out of their comfort zone and allow them some time to play and learn as we would allow a student to do in the classroom.
Video of Teaching Instruction
The following is a session on Student Publishing with the iPads that I did with Classroom 2.0 Online. The recording is on the left. Although the presentation went well, you will notice that when the moderator uploaded the slideshow, it was modified greatly. Because of that, I have also included the original slideshow on the right. Once this class was completed, I published the ebook below in iTunes. The publishing is still pending.
